It's a Girl!

We had been talking about it for a while, but kind of decided on a whim today to adopt a cat from the local shelter. I wanted to stop in at PetsMart to see if they had any new additions to the adoption center, and the local humane society had a representative there today with six cats. Well, we met a beautiful 2.5 (approx) year old girl who they were calling Clarissa and decided it had to be. :)
So we would now like you all to meet our new little girl, Mabel.
Somehow, even with having every paw declawed, she was found as a stray. There must have been some nice people feeding her or she wasn't outdoors very long. She is a domestic short hair muted calico with white booties and mittens and, one of the details that made us just have to take her home, she has thumbs!!!
We have to keep her and Olivia separated for the time being until we can get Mabel in to the vet for a respiratory check and a rabies shot, but they definitely are aware of each other's existence. Olivia sniffs at the computer room door where Mabel is living right now and we're hoping that they will get used to the smell of each other before we formally introduce them. Mabel is very calm and very very snuggly! When we held her in the store, she just wanted to sit on Brian's lap, and when I went into the room tonight to sit with her, she realized that I would give her many rubs, and she decided I was okay.
We are very excited to have a new playmate for Olivia and a new kitty to share our love with. We're already pretty sure that Olivia will be the head cat of the house and we're hoping Mabel won't mind a crazy little monster playing with her. We will provide more information when we know it.
And here's a picture from yesterday of princess Livvy being a sleepy monster in her matching chair.
